Ordu Municipality And Sampaş A.Ş. Join 3,200,000 € European Open-Dai Cloud Computing And Open Data Project

The Open-DAI project European kick-off meeting was held between February 23 and 24 in Turin, Italy.  The 3,200,000 € project involves 11 partners from four countries and set to last 32 months between February 2012 and September 2014. Turkey takes part in the project with Ordu Municipality and the country’s leading information technology company SAMPAŞ A.Ş.

Known as Open-DAI (Open Data Architecture and Infrastructure of European Public Administrations), the project aims to make data and related platforms available for digital public services on cloud computing infrastructures. With this Project open data will now be available for use as a starting point to create new applications and services for public administrations, companies and citizens and will also provide an information feedback channel for public administrations.

Funded by the European Commission within the framework of the “ICT Policy Support Programme” – Call 2011 of the “Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme” (CIP), Open-DAI Project facilitates  the creation of a platform for the opening up of public data through the use of service-oriented architectures. The platform will make downloading and use of information easier and more flexible, enabling new applications and value added services to be created, both by public administrations and by companies, associations and private citizens.

The new value-added services will also be oriented towards use on mobile devices and smartphones (“Apps”) and will cover a wide range of sectors: from transport and info mobility to environmental quality, from localization services to information for tourism and a new form of communication between citizens and public administrations. Different services will be tried in different regions of the four countries involved in the project: Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey.

The platform will be available for use of private partners in later stages, who will also be able to contribute to enhancing public services, offer new services to the public and therefore open new market outlets.

The General Manager of SAMPAŞ A.Ş. Selçuk Ilıkcan explained:  “Open-Dai Project will bring public services and cloud Technologies together. Ordu has been chosen as the pilot region from Turkey. As SAMPAŞ –with the support and collaboration of Ordu Municipality- we will create the necessary infrastructure that enables public authorities use the current and increasing data at their disposal over cloud technologies in creating new services to benefit public authorities and even private sector. The important thing here is for us to contribute in making our citizens’ lives more convenient and to provide our municipalities with infrastructure, service and products that will help them improve their service quality.”
“The Open-DAI Project gives the Consortium the chance to confirm itself as a leading player in innovation, even in Europe, boosted by collaboration with another two partners from Piemonte, Piedmont Region and Politecnico di Torino, which have long been involved in open data. Our international activities represent a very important sector not only for CSI, but also for the companies involved to date. The wealth of experience we have gained in the sector has brought us new success: being the lead in such an important European Project as the one we are presenting today. We hope to be able to continue along this road, continuing to offer citizens, companies and public administrations increasingly modern and efficient services.” explained Stefano De Capitani, the General Manager of CSI Piemonte.
